Chaos in Ukraine! Ambush of Zelinsky's Home? Release of Savchenko and Lawfare All Around!

An armed ambush at Zelensky's home, the release of Savchenko, criminal suits against the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and the Attorney General; all of this happened in just 1 day. Ukraine's political system, unstable as it was, was set in motion. It's hard to forecast what will happen by the end of the week.

It's even more interesting what's going on backstage. That's where Ukrainian politicians started pledging their allegiance to the next president.

Andrey Grigoriev will tell us more.

Nadezhda Savchenko: "I'm not leaving Ukraine as I'm a hero of Ukraine".

At midnight sharp, Nadezhda Savchenko was released. The term of detention expired and the court didn't extend it. And, a few minutes later, right at the courthouse, she joined the election race in support of Zelensky.

Nadezhda Savchenko, Deputy of Verkhovna Rada: "Ukrainians have learned a lot in these 5 years. They learned not to trust the lying government of Poroshenko, who promised to end the war in 2 days and didn't do it, and he never will".

Anatoliy Shariy is another persistent critic of Poroshenko. Today, another Ukrainian court has called off the international manhunt for the journalist, who is being prosecuted on political grounds.

Anatoliy Shariy, journalist: "We've been constantly demanding to just look into this case again. They've been refusing but we were persistent. Now, the judged has just done what the law requires".

Ukrainian judges started to do what the law requires no sooner than Poroshenko's position became unstable. Today, they suddenly started investigating the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Porubiy and Attorney General Lutsenko.

Borislav Beryoza, Deputy of Verkhovna Rada: "Now, I can say that some of the deputies and representatives of the government are trying to make a deal with the new president. It's a matter of life and death for them".

On the air of the ICTV Channel, Poroshenko keeps glancing at his watch, as if he's waiting for Zelensky to come even though there's only one tribune in the studio: no debates were planned.

Pyotr Poroshenko, President of Ukraine: "My opponent hasn't come to the meeting again. I'm absolutely confident that we must hold this meeting. I'm absolutely confident that we must protect the rights and freedoms of the citizens, including the right for information, which will help them to make a conscious choice when electing the president of Ukraine".

In the end, the TV-program consisted of Poroshenko's 1.5-hour monologue on the reasons why people shouldn't vote for Zelensky: "He has neither the experience nor the team, and it's possible that his campaign is funded by Ukrainian oligarchs".

Alexandr Danilyuk, Zelensky's advisor: "After so many years at work, I can't help but wonder how you can blatantly tell lies as you look the people right in the eyes. But it's what Poroshenko is specialized in, he is a natural".

The first official request for the Security Service of Ukraine was issued by an anonymous extremist website, Peacemaker. They requested that the sources of funding of Zelensky's campaign be checked. There were cases in Ukraine when people were killed just for being mentioned on Peacemaker. That's what happened to a writer, Oles Buzina, who was shot near the entrance to his house. And the killers, radical nationalists, are still at large.

Recently, near Zelensky's house, in a suburb near Kiev, the police foiled an ambush consisting of armed men in a car with a heavy machine gun installed in the trunk. Today, it's become known that even his parents tried to talk Zelensky out of running for president.

Rimma Zelenskaya, Zelensky's mother: "We advised him not to run, but he made a decision, it was his choice. Let it be so. Now, we'll see what'll come out of it. Will he win or lose? Maybe he'll lose to Poroshenko. This is how it works".

The parents of Zelensky, the successful performer and businessman, still live in this shabby multi-story building in the provincial city of Krivoy Rog.
