Servicemen are going to celebrate the Strategic Missile Troops Day. The most advanced Yars missiles will be delivered to four missile regiments in Kozelsk, Yoshkar-Ola, Novosibirsk, and Irkutsk.

Sergey Samokha has the details.

"Attention! We've received an order to accomplish a combat mission".

Almost every day for 10 years, captain Alexey Shamansky has been holding his hand over that very button which launches intercontinental ballistic missiles. But even the experienced duty officer was allowed to work at the new Yars only after a 6-month training.

Alexey Shamansky, serviceman: "They installed new training equipment, and we began to practice, study it, and then we were allowed to operate the new equipment".

There haven't been many solemn days in the history of re-equipment of the missile troops. But today is one of those solemn days. The fifth-generation Yars silo-based missiles were delivered to the 1st regiment of the 28th Guards Rocket Division.

Dmitry Kalinin, Regiment Commander: "The regiment I'm honored to be the commander of was the first in the history of the Strategic Missile Troops to do that. It has the most advanced Russian-made missiles in service".

RS-24 was acknowledged to be the most feared and destructive weapon in human history. But still, it's not the sword but the shield of our country. Yars is a Russian abbreviation for "nuclear deterrent missile." This reflects the true meaning of it. It starts in an instant and reaches a speed of 5 mi/s during the so-called boost phase. The missile doesn't follow a smooth trajectory but wiggles a bit, constantly changing its direction. The anti-missile system of a potential enemy can't calculate at what point it can intercept the missile. At some point, the warhead divides into several targetable warheads some of which are decoys. Real warheads can deliver a dreadfully heavy load to any place on the planet at a hypersonic speed within 20 minutes.

The most advanced small-arms system "Dym" developed by Russian arms producers protects the Yarses. The weapon has been classified until recently. Its image and principle of operation are being demonstrated just now.

The missile silo protection system looks like a computer game. The operator can control the turret equipped with a grenade launcher and a machine gun. With this button, you can select an ammunition type and firing mode: single-shot or volley firing. You even can give an order to the offender.

"Stop! Restricted area".

The number of missiles delivered and the characteristics of the complex are classified. It's known that this is just the beginning of re-equipment. Another two regiments of the 28th Guards Rocket Division will receive the Yarses in the near future.
