Russian diplomats will send a note of protest to the American authorities concerning the transfer of Maria Butina to another penal institution. The representatives of the Russian diplomatic mission posted this on Facebook (запрещена в РФ).
It became known yesterday that Maria was transferred to the prison in Alexandria without even notifying her lawyer. Representatives from the Russian embassy immediately went to visit her. They were told that Maria is in complete isolation now, she was deprived of her personal belongings, books, and more.
"It's outrageous that Maria was transferred in irons and nobody has bothered to explain what's happening and where she's been taken to. She spent the next 12 hours in a quarantine cell without food, with the lights on, and almost without sleep. Now she will be held in solitary confinement. She will be locked in an individual cell. Now we have even more questions for the American justice system. Is it true that the alleged offenses even before the court decision consign Maria to practices of borderline torture? It seems like the US leaving the UN Human Rights Council was connected to the intention of the American authorities to get a free hand for such provocations".
It wasn't better for Maria in the previous penitentiary either. After a conversation with Maria, Russian diplomats said that during her imprisonment in the Washington prison she wasn't allowed time in open air, they regularly conducted complete strip searches on her and woke her up every 15 minutes at night. Experts have called this nothing but a method of psychological pressure on her.
