Arctic Conditions Hit Russia’s Far Eastern Regions - Two Die From the -50 Degree Weather

The first serious frosts hit Taymyr right after Christmas. The temperature went down to -40 degrees.

 

The Arctic cold reached Yakutia. Two people died at -50 degrees. In some areas, the temperature dropped to -65. Schools are closed. The agencies of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are put on alert in case an emergency occurs. The temperature in a Yakutian village Oymyakon, which is considered one of the Poles of Cold, has gone down as low as -60 in the last several days.

The Magadan area is also suffering from extreme frosts. The thermometer recorded almost -55 degrees there. Schools are also closed there.

According to the weather forecast, a rise in temperature is not in sight.
